  1.                     CONTRAINDICATIONS TO LENS WEAR

  3.                     GENERAL HEALTH REASON:
  4.  
  5. Pregnancy
  6.  
  7. During pregnancy the tear film may 
  8. change causing wearing problems.  
  9. There may be water retention 
  10. causing corneal edema
  11.  
  12. Some patients have problems with 
  13. lens wear particularly during the first
  14. 3 to 6 months of a pregnancy.  Patient 
  15. should be allowed to wear lenses 
  16. during pregnancy but it is usually 
  17. prudent not to fit a new patient during this time.
  18.  
  19. Thyroid Dysfunction
  20.  
  21. Hypothroidism may cause dryness and difficulty with lens wear.  Patient should be controlled with medications before being fitted.
  22.  
  23. Hyperthyroidism can cause exophthalmos with resultant drying and fitting problems.
  24.
